MEN'S ARTISTIC SECTION

Our Men’s Artistic section offers a structured pathway for boys, detailed below, with clear Development from Beginner to Elite Levels.

MA Pre-Competitive Pathway

(2-6 Hours per week)

Boys as young as 4 years old may be selected to join the Men’s Artistic Development classes. In this pathway, gymnasts will train on all six apparatus: Floor, Pommel Horse, Rings, Vault, Parallel Bars, and High Bar. The development squad follows a tailored training program aimed at building flexibility, strength, and coordination, with a focus on mastering core skills that will be essential for later stages. From the age of 6, gymnasts will compete in floor and vault competitions, preparing them for regional and national grade competitions starting at age 8. Consistent attendance is key for all gymnasts in this pathway.

Club Grades Pathway - Bob Currier Competition

This pathway allows gymnasts to compete in the National Development Plan while refining their voluntary skills for national competitions. Success in the Club Grades Pathway requires regular attendance and a high level of commitment to the training program. Gymnasts will train up to 16 hours per week to excel in the Club Grades, making this a demanding commitment for both the gymnast and their family.

Elite Grade Pathway - Paul Blakebrough Competition

This pathway is for gymnasts aiming to compete at the highest levels of national gymnastics. Elite gymnasts train more than 18 hours per week, making this pathway extremely demanding. Lasswade Gymnastics Club sets high expectations for our elite gymnasts, and they are expected to embody the club's values throughout the program. Gymnasts are required to attend all training sessions, camps, and holiday programs to remain on track within this competitive pathway.

FIG Voluntaries

At the voluntary level, the focus shifts to Scottish Championships and British Voluntary events, with the ultimate goal of selection for the British Championships for the top performers. Gymnasts in this pathway train a minimum of 18 hours per week, requiring strong commitment from both the gymnast and their family. Lasswade Gymnastics Club holds high expectations for voluntary gymnasts and encourages them to fully embrace the club's values as part of their program.

Progress and Commitment Reviews

If a coach or gymnast feels that progress or commitment is not meeting expectations, a meeting with parents will be arranged to discuss options to help the gymnast get back on track or consider future training pathways. Please remember that all gymnasts develop at different rates, and it is common for gymnasts to adjust their training schedule or pathway during their gymnastics journey.
